In-Person Tours

We welcome university classes and community groups to inquire about how a safe visit to the museum can be tailored to your interests or curricular needs.

If you teach a small class or are teaching in a hybrid model where your class is divided into smaller sections, we welcome your group or groups to the museum with increased safety measures in place. Small community groups are also invited to safely tour the Art Museum.

The maximum capacity for a group tour is dependent on the nature of the learning encounter you would like to have. The museum can accommodate slightly larger groups if they are able to divide into two sections and/or if they may complete independent assignments in the galleries. If you wish for your students to look at and discuss works of art together, the tour capacity will be smaller. Exact capacity will be based on current CDC and state health department regulations as well as University guidance. Confirmed tours are subject to cancellation if these guidelines change between the date of confirmation and the scheduled tour date.

Tour Guidelines

  • Tours must be requested at least 3 weeks in advance. All groups must be scheduled prior to visiting. Even if your group leader or organizer desires to lead the tour, they must contact us with a tour request to help us avoid scheduling conflicts with other groups and overcrowding in the galleries.
  • Tour dates are not guaranteed until confirmed by a member of Art Museum staff.
  • Tour organizers must provide names and contact details for all participants this is so:
    • We can send information about museum guidelines directly to participants in advance of your tour.
    • We can implement contact tracing protocols if necessary (names provided in advance of your tour will be checked against actual attendance at the time of the tour)
  • Until further notice, all visitors—including tour participants—must: Wear a face mask, follow all social distancing guidelines set forth in the galleries, Museum Education Center, entryways, elevators, and restroom facilities, and stay home if they are experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with individuals with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Please review the Visit Guidelines with your group before your tour.

Fill out the In-Person Tour request form

A member of the museum staff will get back to you to discuss and confirm the details of your visit. If we determine they cannot welcome your group to the museum safely at this time, we are happy to work with you on virtual opportunities to engage with the collection.
