Weekend Cleveland, OH Trip

May 4-6, 2018 - The Friends enjoyed a weekend in Cleveland and Youngstown, OH visiting the Cleveland Museum of Art, Butler Institute of American Art, and a tour of the ICA-Art Conservation Lab. They stayed at the Glidden House Hotel and spent an evening at the home of artist and collector, Gloria Plevin, for a cocktail reception and good cheer.

Evening at the Museum

June 28, 2018 - The evening began with a catered reception in the Museum Education Center's Grand Hall and Petyon Terrace with jazz music performed by The Tanner Davis duo. Sue Ting of Morgantown's Zen Clay Pottery gave a brief talk in the Art Museum for the Flowing Beyond Heaven and Earth exhibit.

Friends Fall Dinner

September 30, 2018 - The Friends met for a 3-course dinner and signature cocktail at Hill & Hollow in Morgantown, WV, with brief talks by Robert Bridges, museum curator, and Dr. Bernie Schultz, Professor and Dean Emeritus, College of Creative Arts.


Fall Dinner in Deep Creek, MD

October 22, 2017 - The Friends were invited to the Myerberg home in Deep Creek, MD for a cocktail buffet catered by Chef Don Champion. 

Evening at the Museum

July 27, 2017 - Friends members enjoyed a catered reception and signature cocktails in the MEC Grand Hall and on the Peyton Terrace. The evening included small group tours of the Museum.

Friends of the Art Museum Annual Membership Reception 

Feb. 2017 - Bring prospective Friends members with you as your guests and introduce them to the Art Museum. Enjoy small group tours of the museum’s collection storage, creating hands-on art, refreshments, and good cheer.


Glade Springs House Tour 
Saturday – Sunday, April 30-May 1, 2016  

The trip included a stop at Tamarack in Beckley for lunch, a chance to see the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery and browse the West Virginia arts and crafts featured in their shop. The Friends also enjoyed the Pittis Pottery in Daniels, where potter Diana Pittis demonstrated a raku firing. At Glade Springs, members visited the lovely home of art collectors Harvey and Jennifer Peyton, Art Museum donors and members of the Friends, who shared their collection and hosted a reception. An overnight stay at the Resort at Glade Springs included a sumptuous breakfast on Sunday morning. On the return trip, the Friends toured Lynn and Jennifer Boggess’s new studio.


Fall Themed Dinner 
This is one of the favorite events of the year for members of the Friends. On October 25, 2015, members enjoyed the tastes of the autumn harvest, music, and art in the convivial company of other Friends at Table 9 on the Monongahela River.

Continental Breakfast with Museum Staff 
This Continental Breakfast on August 25, 2015 not only included a nice morning with friends, but a preview tour of the Art Museum’s opening exhibitions with the museum staff.

Weekend Trip to Cleveland 
The Friends embarked on a weekend trip to Cleveland during May 29-31, 2015 to visit the Museum of Art, Intermuseum Conservation Association, Botanical Gardens, Museum of Contemporary Art, and more.

Duquesne Club Tour  
On April 11, 2015, the Friends had lunch and toured the art collection at the beautiful, private Duquesne Club of Pittsburgh, founded in 1873.


First Look 
In September 2014 the Friends of the Art Museum had the wonderful opportunity to tour the new Art Museum of West Virginia University while work was still on-going. Tour groups were led by March-Westin representatives and the WVU project team. After the tour, the Friends group enjoyed refreshments at the Museum Education Center in celebration of the progress.

Wheeling Art & History Tour 
Nearing the end of September 2014, the Friends had the opportunity to explore all Wheeling has to offer on a tour that consisted of stops at the Wheeling Capitol Theatre, Independence Hall, Center Market, and Oglebay Institute. There was a lovely reception following the tour.


Jefferson County Trip 
In early October 2013, author John Allen, Jr. led the Friends of the Art Museum on a tour of several historic homes and plantations nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. This trip showcased beautiful and significant 18th-century architecture, as well as the vibrant and rich autumn colors of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

Friends Philadelphia Trip 
In 2013 the members of Friends of the Art Museum embarked on their first overnight trip, a weekend in Philadelphia. More than 30 members enjoyed tours and talks at several Philadelphia area art institutions, including Winterthur Museum & Garden, the Barnes Foundation, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Other past events have included a private tour of Kentuck Knob, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and currently owned by Lord and Lady Palumbo; a summer Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game tied in with a visit to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh; and a Friends-hosted reception at Blaney House, the residence of the president of West Virginia University.
