Glade Springs House Tour
Saturday – Sunday, April 30-May 1, 2016

Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery and browse the West Virginia arts and crafts featured in their shop. Then it’s on to the Pittis Pottery in Daniels, where potter Diana Pittis will be doing a raku firing and telling us about her work. Next, in Glade Springs, visit the lovely home of art collectors Harvey and Jennifer Peyton, Art Museum donors and members of the Friends, who will share their collection with us, followed by a reception.

We’ll be staying overnight at the Resort at Glade Springs where we’ll enjoy a sumptuous breakfast on Sunday morning. On the return trip, the Friends will tour Lynn and Jennifer Boggess’s new studio.

Cost per person for double occupancy is $150 which includes bus transportation, lodging and breakfast. The cost for a single-occupancy room is $200. (Lunch on Saturday at Tamarck is not included.) Reservations must be made by March 30 with full payment requested at that time.

First Look

Tour groups were led by March-Westin representatives and the WVU project team. After the tour, the Friends group enjoyed refreshments at the Museum Education Center in celebration of the progress.

Wheeling Art & History Tour
Nearing the end of September 2014, the Friends had the opportunity to explore all Wheeling has to offer on a tour that consisted of stops at the Wheeling Capitol Theatre, Independence Hall, Center Market, and Oglebay Institute. There was a lovely reception following the tour.

Jefferson County Trip
In early October 2013, author John Allen, Jr. led the Friends of the Art Museum on a tour of several historic homes and plantations nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. This trip showcased beautiful and significant 18th-century architecture, as well as the vibrant and rich autumn colors of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

Friends Philadelphia Trip
In 2013 the members of Friends of the Art Museum embarked on their first overnight trip, a weekend in Philadelphia. More than 30 members enjoyed tours and talks at several Philadelphia area art institutions, including Winterthur Museum & Garden, the Barnes Foundation, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Other past events have included a private tour of Kentuck Knob, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and currently owned by Lord and Lady Palumbo; a summer Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game tied in with a visit to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh; and a Friends-hosted reception at Blaney House, the residence of the president of West Virginia University.
